Germany: Vecoplan has appointed Martina Schmidt as the head of its Recycling & Waste unit. She will be responsible for all of the company’s business activities in the markets plastics recycling, alternative fuel processing, recycling of domestic and industrial waste as well as file and data destruction. As part of the new role she will also join the company’s management team.

Schmidt, aged 47-years, started her professional career at Vecoplan in 1990 as an industrial clerk. She assumed the lead of the internal sales department in 2010, since 2013 the certified business economist took responsibility for the sales of the business unit Recycling & Waste.

India: The Golden Rock railway workshop, also known as Ponmalai, in Tiruchy, Tamil Nadu is sending old train seats to UltraTech Cement’s plant at Reddipalayam for use as an alternative fuel. The initiative is part of the GreenCo Rating System, according to the New Indian Express newspaper.

Germany: Beumer is supplying a conveying and feeding system for alternative fuels for Deuna Zement’s plant in Thuringia. Umweltdienste Bohn, based in Alsfeld, was commissioned to supply the subsidiary of Dyckerhoff with alternative fuels and will build a processing plant on Deuna’s premises as part of this partnership.

As the general contractor, Umweltdienste Bohn engaged the Beumer Group for a conveying and feeding system using a pipe conveyor. The scope of supply also includes three feeding hoppers with a screw conveyor, belt conveyor, rotary starscreens and scales as well as steel structure, electronics and controls. Commissioning is scheduled for February 2018.

UK: Andusia Recovered Fuels is celebrating the collection of its one millionth tonne of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to be sent to markets in Europe. The millionth bale will be produced and collected from Associated Waste Management in Leeds and then delivered to a waste-to-energy plant operated by SWB in Bremen, Germany. Since the company launched in 2012 it met its 0.75Mt milestone in 2016 and its 0.9Mt milestone in 2017.
