China: In 2018 China Resources Cement launched co-processing projects in Changjiang County in Hainan, Tianyang County in Guangxi, Midu County in Yunnan and Fengqing County in Yunna. Three of these are in trial operation and the Tianyang project is in full operation. The cement producer runs seven co-processing projects overall with other sites at Binyang in Guangxi, Nanning in Guangx and Guangzhou in Guangdong. These process a variety of waste types, including municipal solid waste, urban sludge and hazardous industrial waste.

UAE: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) says it will supply almost all of its production of carbon dust for use as an alternative fuel by the local cement industry. Over the next two years, it will increase its supply of carbon dust to around 78,000t. The move extends EGA’s cooperation with cement companies to re-use by-products of aluminium smelting such as spent pot lining.

Carbon dust is generated during the process of producing anodes, large carbon blocks that are consumed during aluminium smelting. EGA will supply the cement industry with both newly produced carbon dust and stockpiled material. Freshly-produced carbon dust will be supplied directly to the cement industry. For stockpiled carbon dust, EGA has signed a contract with Heavy Machinery Viqa for processing and re-use. Heavy Machinery Viqa specialises in recovering and recycling by-products from heavy industries in the UAE.

South Korea: Austria's A Tec is installing two RM 2.50 Rocket Mills at Ssangyong Cement’s plants in Donghae and Yeongwol. The mills will be used to shred municipal and industrial waste to produce solid alternative fuels for use in the plant’s kilns. No commissioning dates have been released.
