Dalmia Cement plans to grow bamboo as fuel
09 November 2021India: Dalmia Cement has sought to acquire 2Mha of land from the government for use in bamboo production. The company plans to use the bamboo to produce bio-based alternative fuel (AF) for its cement production. BusinessLine News has reported that the company plans to obtain brownfield sites in order to restore them to grow the crop on.
Holcim España cuts 10,000t of CO2 in 2019
24 February 2020Spain: Holcim España has reported that it has achieved a 10,000t reduction in CO2 emissions at its 1.5Mt/yr integrated Carboneras plant in Almeria in 2019 by the 30% (60,000t) substitution of alternative fuels for coal throughout the year. Agencia Efa newspaper has reported that the switch was the result of a Euro0.88m upgrade to the kiln line as a part of LafargeHolcim’s Euro20m investment in measures to reduce its Spanish carbon footprint by 90,000t/yr. This also includes the introduction of plant-derived biomass to the Carboneras line by the end of 2020, at an estimated cost of Euro3.1m.
Dalmia cement commits itself to 100% RDF and biofuels by 2030
20 September 2019India: Dalmia Cement has revealed its commitment to the adoption of bamboo matter and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for 100% of its fuel needs by 2030 as part of its new ‘Future Today’ branding. The company’s plan also consists of a transition to renewable power by 2040 and a 0.5Mt/yr carbon capture and storage facility at its 4.0Mt/yr integrated Ariyalur cement plant in Tamil Nadu in 2022 at the latest. Mahendra Singh, managing director and CEO of Dalmia Cement, has expressed the hope that its product should become ‘the World’s greenest cement.’
