Nigeria: Dangote Cement plans to upgrade its Ibese cement plant in order to use biofuels in its cement production. The Nigerian Guardian newspaper has reported that the plant will receive a pneumatic feeding system for the kiln of its Line 2. Dangote Cement plans to use palm kernel shells, rice husks, coconut shells and sugarcane bagasse, along with sawdust. The producer says that this will reduce its CO₂ emissions by 5.2% and help to divert local agricultural waste from incineration.

Project head Sumaila Muhammed said “We carried out alternative fuel resource mapping within our host communities. We decided to collect these wastes and convert them into valuable energy resources as smokeless, renewable biofuel."

Indonesia: Entsorga has dispatched two Spider bridge cranes and two Pelican feeding and dosing systems for the construction of two new solid recovered fuel (SRF) storage, feeding and dosing systems at Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa’s 11.9Mt/yr Citeureup cement plant in Bogor Regency. The systems will have a total capacity of 50t/hr. An advanced supervision system will monitor and control their 24-hour operation. The Italy-based supplier says that both lines are highly automated and will reduce both CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption.

CEO Francesco Galanzino “The systems will help the cement plant to maintain its 2030 sustainability commitments, in line with the policies of HeidelbergCement who is a real first mover in the path toward sustainability. Such project it is a very important step in a Country where environmental policies are in their early stage.”

Peru: FLSmidth has secured a contract for the supply of a new pyro line for Cementos Pacasmayo’s Pacasmayo cement plant near Lima. The new line will give the plant an additional production capacity of 0.6Mt/yr. The supplier says that it plans to install a Cross-Bar cooler, low-NOx calciner, Jetflex burner, equipment for dosing and feeding and process automation. FLSmidth says that the upgrade will reduce the plant’s energy consumption and open new opportunities for the use of alternative fuel (AF).

FLSmidth’s head of projects and upgrades and senior vice president Anders Josefsen said “We are very excited to work with Cementos Pacasmayo on this project – not only on growing the business, but doing it in a sustainable way. The new line will be equipped with a state-of-the-art pyro system including several of our MissionZero solutions. With this, Pacasmayo makes a significant investment in future-proofing its production.” He added “The Pacasmayo project is a prime example of our capabilities within process design: ensuring the integration to an existing plant, while also demonstrating our ability to deliver equipment that meets demands for energy and fuel efficiency.”

Japan/Thailand: Aumund subsidiary Aumund Asia has installed a total of four Samson type 800 material feeders to waste management facilities in Japan’s Okinawa Region and Thailand’s Saraburi Province. The feeders have a capacity of 80t/hr and reduce dust emissions from handling and conveying operations thanks to their unique filter and enclosure.

Germany: Beumer Group has developed a screw weigh feeder with automatic calibration. The company says it is especially well suited to exact and controlled feeding of inhomogeneous bulk materials of densities between 0.08t/m3 and 0.80t/m3 and extremely high moisture content such as alternative fuels. Its capacity is 30t/hr and its weighing tolerance is between 1% and 2%. It is completely covered to prevent dust and other environmental stresses.

Germany: Beumer is supplying a conveying and feeding system for alternative fuels for Deuna Zement’s plant in Thuringia. Umweltdienste Bohn, based in Alsfeld, was commissioned to supply the subsidiary of Dyckerhoff with alternative fuels and will build a processing plant on Deuna’s premises as part of this partnership.

As the general contractor, Umweltdienste Bohn engaged the Beumer Group for a conveying and feeding system using a pipe conveyor. The scope of supply also includes three feeding hoppers with a screw conveyor, belt conveyor, rotary starscreens and scales as well as steel structure, electronics and controls. Commissioning is scheduled for February 2018.
