Tarmac Dunbar cement plant orders solid recovered fuel system from Saxlund International
10 July 2019UK: Tarmac has ordered a solid recovered fuel (SRF) handling system from Saxlund International to increase the capability to utilise alternative fuels at its Dunbar integrated cement plant. The SRF system will be installed in the second half of 2019. It is designed for the reception of trucks and storage of fuel in two bunkers. The new system includes processing of fuel to remove ferrous and oversize particles before weighing and dosing into a pneumatic conveying system for kiln injection. The Dunbar plant will use SRF supplied by Hamilton - Solid Recovered Fuel.

Saxlund Group to present European cement industry case studies at Global CemFuels Conference
09 February 2018UK: Saxlund Group will present a number of case studies covering its experiences supplying alternative fuels and bulk handling systems for cement plants in Europe at the upcoming Global CemFuels Conference taking place in Berlin. Its references include a complete end-to-end solution for one of the UK’s largest cement kilns, incorporating the reception, storage, transportation, screening, weighing and pneumatic injection of solid recovered fuel (SRF). Other project experience includes secondary fuel-handling solutions for CBR Cement in Belgium, plus a refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility for LafargeHolcim at the company’s plant in Höver, Germany. The company will also be explaining some of the issues encountered when handling modern alternative fuels and how to ensure full plant availability with minimal downtime.
The company will also be explaining its design approach for minimising storage and transfer issues for what can be sticky and challenging materials, including SRF, RDF and other biomass fuels. A key focus will be on activated silo discharge solutions and conveying equipment with an emphasis on ‘First in, first out’ design principles to minimise compaction and material conglomeration. Key technologies covered will include the company’s leading Push Floor and Sliding Frame solutions, bucket elevators and enclosed chain conveyors, plus integrated screening, weighing and dosing solutions.
UK: Saxlund International has collaborated with Hope Construction Materials to install and commission a new waste-derived fuel solution for Hope Construction Materials' cement plant in Derbyshire, UK. The solution has been designed to provide storage, transportation, weighing and injection of solid waste fuel (SWF) to the two kilns. The goal is to increase the rate at which Hope can replace fossil fuels with waste-derived alternatives to more than 50%, a key part of its long-term sustainability targets.
The project incorporates a fuel reception and push-floor storage solution, reclaim conveyors, process tower with drum magnet and star screen, together with a weighing and pneumatic injection system to the main burners. The system facilitates stable and reliable process conditions to help minimise build-up in the pre-heater tower. It also offers a 'future-proof' solution with the flexibility to handle changing fuel characteristics and different types of waste-derived fuels, should suppliers change in the future.
"This is a flagship project for us. Once fully operational, the new solid waste fuel (SWF) system will run on a 24/7 basis delivering fuel at a rate of up to 5t/hr to each kiln," said Matt Drew, managing director Saxlund International. "It means that Hope Works will soon be operating with a significantly larger proportion of waste-derived fuels, in the process diverting up to 80,000t/yr of bulk solid waste from landfill and representing significant carbon savings to the business."
