Holcim Philippines’ net sales decline in first nine months of 2023
30 November 2023Philippines: Holcim Philippines recorded sales of US$332m during the first nine months of 2023. This represents a 4% drop from nine-month 2022 levels. The producer reported operating earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) of US$25.2m. Throughout the period, Holcim Philippines co-processed 800,000t of alternative fuel (AF) at its plants. Blended cement products ended September 2023 at 75% of its cement sales.
Peru: Grupo Gloria subsidiary Cemento Yura plans to transition its Yura cement plant from using coal to alternative fuels (AF) in its cement production. Additionally, the producer will build a 30MW solar power plant at the site. The Gestión newspaper has reported the total value of the upgrades as US$50m. Both projects are scheduled for commissioning in mid-2025.
In the 2023 financial year, which ended on 30 June 2023, Peruvian cement despatches fell by 8% to 12.6Mt.
A Tec installs two rocket mills at Ssangyong Cement plants
14 February 2019South Korea: Austria's A Tec is installing two RM 2.50 Rocket Mills at Ssangyong Cement’s plants in Donghae and Yeongwol. The mills will be used to shred municipal and industrial waste to produce solid alternative fuels for use in the plant’s kilns. No commissioning dates have been released.
Italy: Shredder manufacturer Untha says that it has overseen ‘significant’ growth following its collaboration with waste processing company Ecotec Solution. Since mid-2016 Ecotec Solution has secured six large projects for its Austrian partner.
These include three XR mobil-e sales for waste to energy facilities: one based in Trieste handling bulky input wastes for cement fuel preparation and two tackling pre-treated municipal solid waste (MSW) to create varied products including an infeed material for heat treatment. Other sales include a static XR3000C shredder for high performance <50mm solid recovered fuel (SRF) manufacturing, an XR2000R shredder for the <350mm processing of MSW and a TR2500 post shredder to produce a refined <30mm cement fuel from pre-treated light fraction.
“Landfill sites are closing and, due to a lack of more traditional waste disposal options, companies are looking for new channels for their residual materials,” said Ecotec Solution’s managing director Martin Mairhofer. “High value prices for SRF make this non-traditional treatment method an attractive alternative, but a significant degree of investment is required to design and build commercially robust plants.”
