Chile: Germany-based Sutco says that it has commissioned Chile’s first semi-automated sorting plant for circular materials. The plant has a capacity of 60,000t/yr and is equipped with technology from suppliers including UNTHA Iberica, Pellenc, UnoTech, TIG Automation and Incoserv. The facility includes a dedicated alternative fuels production line to serve the cement industry.

Chile: Cbb Cementos and Ambipar Environment have announced an upgrade to the Curicó plant that will allow it to process refuse-derived fuel (RDF). The US$5m investment will allow the unit to process around 36,000t/yr of RDF. The work will include building a reception hopper, a screening system, a belt feed belt to the calciner and a dosing system. Three warehouses will also be constructed. The alternative fuels upgrade is expected to start operation in early 2024.

Chile: Waste management company KDM and Finland’s Griffin have partnered up to produce solid recovered fuel (SRF). The waste fuel will be produced at KDM’s Loma Los Colorados waste separation plant, according to the El Mercurio newspaper. An investment of US$5.3m will be made at the site and it expects to produce 30,000t/yr of SRF. Fuel from the unit will be marketed to the local cement industry.
