Limak Çimento completes hydrogen fuel test at Ankara cement plant
06 November 2024Türkiye: Limak Çimento has carried out a month-long test on hydrogen fuel blends at its cement plant in Ankara. The company partnered with France-based Air Liquide for the supply of hydrogen, which was injected into the preheater tower. The pair previously used a 50% hydrogen blend during a test at Limak’s Polatli plant in June 2024, with ‘excellent results’, according to Hydrogen Insight.
Erkam Kocakerim, CEO of Limak Çimento, said "The purpose of this investment is to enable safe and effective use of hydrogen technologies in our cement kilns and to increase the rate of alternative fuel substitution. We aim to operate the kilns in our seven integrated cement plants with a low-carbon fuel mix between 2030 and 2035."
KÇS Kipaş Çimento orders Pyrorotor from KHD Humboldt Wedag
17 August 2022Turkey: KÇS Kipaş Çimento has placed an order with KHD Humboldt Wedag for a Pyrorotor for its Kahramanmaraş cement plant. The supplier says that the equipment will enable the plant's calciner to achieve an alternative fuel (AF) substitution rate of 90%. It will additionally restrict NOx emissions to 800mg/Nm3. After a short shutdown for assemblage of gas duct connections, KHD expects to commission the upgraded system in mid-to-late 2023.
The company says that the KÇS Kipaş Çimento contract represents its 11th Pyrorotor order globally and the first in Turkey.
Untha creates subsidiary in Turkey
20 July 2022Turkey: Austria-based Untha has started a new subsidiary in Istanbul called Untha Türkiye. The shredder manufacturer said that it had sold a number of machines to Turkish operators, particularly in the waste to energy market. However, it has responded to demand from customers for local support.
Taner Topcu will manage the new subsidiary with support from Yusa Özbek as the service and aftersales manager. Untha’s head of global sales, Peter Streinik, and chief financial officer, Andrea Gratzer, have also joined as directors.
Upgrade at Bursa Çimento to enable 86% substitution rate
10 December 2020Turkey: Denmark-based FLSmidth has released details about a new clinker production line it is currently supplying to Bursa Çimento. Work at the site is underway at present covering the line from crushing to clinker cooling. The new line is scheduled to start at the end of 2022. FLSmidth says the equipment it is supplying includes a Hotdisc Combustion Device, which will help increase the substitution rate to 86%, the highest in Turkey. The order also includes an OK Raw Mill, a Rotax-2 kiln, Pfister feeders and new air pollution process filters.
"The modernisation of our Bursa site is a strategic investment, providing us with a more competitive cost base,” said Osman Nemli, General Manager at Bursa Çimento. “But just as important is the entire upgrade which focuses on reducing emissions and power consumption. In this way, we are proactively mitigating future possible environmental regulation."
